Project Outline
This product is a hair accessory. It holds your hair out of your face while maintaining low tension on your scalp. It is a simple design similar to a hair claw clip, but offers a unique look to fit with a variety of styling options.
Product Description
My goals for this project is to show an original product of mine with two different approaches to marketing using two separate target audiences using 3D renders and animations.
One Product.
Two Personas.
Simple. Mature. Elegant.
Target audience: Adults, Professionals
Product material: Metal plated with gold or silver.
Selling Points: Simple and elegant design. Quality and luxury.
Marketing Strategy: This would be sold at a higher price point to accommodate stronger and more expensive materials with the expectation that the consumer will pay the higher price point but will only buy the product a few times. This ties in with the target audience persona - someone looking for higher quality products to seem more professional or to show they choose luxury over cheaper products.
Colorful. Playful. Fun.
Target audience: Pre-teen, Teen, Young Adults
Product materials: Colorful Plastics.
Selling Points: Playful. Create bold color combinations.
Marketing Strategy: This version of the product would be sold at a lower price point with the expectation that the consumer will buy the product multiple times to get a variety of colors. Advertisements would show a variety of colors and encourage swapping the pieces around to get different color combinations. This ties into the target audience persona - someone playful who enjoys colorful bold pieces.
Design Process
I designed the product in on-shape, an engineering CAD software, to get precise dimensions for 3D printing. I made different prototypes using my 3D printer to test the size and strength of the product and gave some away to collect feedback.
For the 3D renders and animations I used Cinema4D. I then compiled the animation in After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder.
