Project Description
When I’m not working on digital designs I’m building and designing things you can use and touch. In fact a lot of my digital designs are grounded by real world design principals I learned from my industrial design studio in college. This furniture piece is my favorite large scale product I have created. I wanted this piece to perfectly blend form and function - a design that is practical but still interesting and unique.
Product Purpose
If you’re someone who loves hosting gatherings for friends and family - living in a small space can feel very limiting. This chair is a solution for adding extra seats while still feeling sturdy and formal compared to traditional folding chairs or camping chairs. It stores completely flat so it can be easily tucked away in between or under furniture. It is easy to assemble and can spark conversation as you build the chairs together.
Real wood. No hardware. Stores flat.
Design Process:
My research mostly focused on small apartments, dorms, and “van-life” themed vehicles. My first concept models where laser-cut small-scale iterations followed by a larger scale prototype. Eventually the final model was designed using solid works and cut out of a single sheet of wood using a CNC machine.
